Receive treatment
You will need to attend the clinic to have your intramuscular injection administered to you.
Test of cure
14 days after receiving your treatment, you will need to re-test for Gonorrhoea to ensure that the infection has gone,

Yes, Gonorrhoea is easily treated and cured.
How is Gonorrhoea treated?
Gonorrhoea is treated using antibiotics that are administered through an intramuscular injection, typically in the buttocks or thigh.
What are the side effects of Gonorrhoea treatment?
Side effects may include:
- Nausea (feeling sick)
- Vomiting
- Stomach cramps or pain
- Diarrhoea
- Headaches and dizziness
- Rashes
How effective is the treatment for Gonorrhoea?
The treatment for Gonorrhoea is highly effective with an effectiveness rate of 95%.
However, due to overuse of antibiotics worldwide, some infections become resistant to the medication we use.
This is why we recommend a Test Of Cure for Gonorrhoea 14 days after treatment to ensure the infection has been cured. You will need to wait 14 days before having a Test of Cure as dead DNA from the infection can still be traceable for up to 2 weeks. If you get tested before this, your result may not be conclusive.
How long does the treatment for Gonorrhoea take to work?
The Gonorrhoea treatment will help to relieve your symptoms after a couple of days, however, it may take up to two weeks to relieve all symptoms.
What happens if I have symptoms after finishing my treatment?
It is recommended to contact our clinic or your local GP for a follow-up appointment should your symptoms persist.
Will my partner also need treatment?
If you have tested positive for Gonorrhoea, it is important for your partners to also get tested and treated (if appropriate). To prevent reinfection you should avoid any sexual contact with your partners until you have received a conclusively negative test result, and you are sure that your partners are not infected, or have been treated and tested negative following a Test of Cure.
