Mr Aaron Williams saw us while we were visiting London from the US and he treated us well, with compassion and professionalism. Seeing him helped put us at ease for the rest of our trip, which ended up being great.

I had a copper coil removal yesterday with Dr Praveen Jayadeva. If you are at all nervous about an iud fitting or removal, I couldn't recommend this clinic enough. I had a very painful experience at a different clinic that made me really scared about the removal procedure. They really take the time to talk you through what's going to happen and what type of pain relief options you have. They were so friendly and comforting (both the doctor and the amazing assistant) and procedure was so quick. They even offer you tea and biscuits afterwards. Really fantastic and professional clinic!

I had a coil done here. It was an amazing experience, really worth the money paid. The doctor took the time to go through the process and all the options in detail. I felt prepared and well cared for. I had numbing gel and spray and also gas and air. The actual coil fitting was less then 5 minutes. I felt a little discomfort, but the gas and air managed this very well. The team were all very supportive and caring. My coil lasts for 5 years, I'm very happy with my experience. Could not recommend enough.

Dr. Malu was able to help me fully understand and put into context my concerns surrounding HPV, which at times can feel like a confusing subject. His ability to listen and understand my concerns with empathy and without judgement was very helpful. I am grateful for the expertise and care given by Dr. Malu and the staff at his clinic. The team provides a very professional and comfortable experience.

Fantastic and caring team from booking process, reception, appointment and billing. Went for a coil removal. They had ultrasound and gas for pain management (when I checked it seemed they were the only clinic that offered this!!). 100% recommend. Especially if you’re getting a coil, want to make sure you do it with a top professional team. I inserted it elsewhere and it was a barbaric procedure for me, insanely painful and just awful. So save yourself unnecessary trauma/pain

I had such a great experience at Clarewell Clinic. I was extremely nervous about the pain before my copper IUD fitting, but Dr Praveen Jayadeva explained everything clearly throughout the appointment and made me feel completely comfortable. I was given pain relief and the fitting was honestly so much easier than I expected — I barely felt any pain at all. Yasmin was also incredibly lovely and reassuring throughout. I’m genuinely so happy I chose Clarewell and would definitely recommend them. 10/10.

FAQs

How can I prepare for my STI test?

For male patients, we recommend avoiding passing urine for 1-2 hours before your appointment. This is to ensure that you are able to pass urine when you visit the clinic and that we can get a better quality sample.

For female patients, there is no specific action that you need to perform before your visit.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Yes. You can bring your partner, friend or family member to your appointment.

However, if you feel that you would rather not bring someone to the appointment, rest assured that our staff are here to support you and make you comfortable in any way possible. Clarewell Clinics is a safe space.

Why is it important that I complete the pre-appointment questionnaire?

If we are able to better understand your particular situation, we can better prepare for your appointment and ensure that you are given a higher level of care.

Furthermore, it is our medical & legal responsibility to document the appointment. If you are able to help us in filling out key details then we are left with more time for discussion.

When and how do I complete the pre-appointment questionnaire?

We will text/email you the questionnaire once you have booked in for your appointment. It can quite easily be filled out on your phone.

Once I have completed the questionnaire, is there anything that I need to do?

No. If any action is required at all, it will be our responsibility to contact you.

Which STI test is right for me?

We don’t expect you to understand which tests are right for you. We will of course assess your risks and recommend the tests that you need. However, the choice will ultimately be yours.

If I request a particular STI Test at the time of booking, can I change it in the appointment?

Yes, absolutely! We will of course discuss this with you but the choice is entirely yours.

What if I want an STI test that is not listed?

If we are able to provide the test you want, then absolutely. Please click here to see the full list of tests.

Can I have a physical examination along with my STI Test?

Of course! In fact, we recommend a physical examination as part of a routine examination as STIs can sometimes go unnoticed.

Can I see a clinician of the same/different sex?

Of course. This option is available to you. However, we cannot guarantee that we will have a clinician of the same/different sex at a specific day/time of the week.

Can I have a chaperone in the room?

Of course. A chaperone is always available to you. You may also wish to bring your partner/friend/family member to your appointment. The option is entirely yours.

What samples will you require for an STI test and who will take it?

Depending on the screen you opt for, some (or all) of the following samples will be required. Where a sample can be taken by yourself or the clinician, the choice is yours.

  • Urine: Yourself or Clinician
  • Blood from vein: Clinician
  • Throat swab: Yourself or Clinician
  • Rectal swab: Yourself or Clinician
  • Vaginal swab: Yourself or Clinician
If I am on my period, can I still have an STI test?

Of course. As long as you are comfortable, this is absolutely fine. It will not affect the quality of the sample or the accuracy of your results.

If I am taking antibiotics, will this affect the quality of my sample/STI test?

Depending on the antibiotics you’re taking, the quality of the sample and thus the test results may be affected. This may also affect the quality of the advice that we are able to offer you.

As such, if you think you may have acquired an STI, it is essential to speak to a clinician before taking any medications.

How will I know if my sample is of good quality?

All tests that we offer include a control test to ensure that the test has worked properly.

Furthermore, our tests which require a urine/vaginal swab have a Specimen Adequacy Control that checks to make sure that the sample received was of a high quality. If this control fails, then the test will not finish and a repeat sample may be needed.

How will I know when my STI test results are ready?

You will get your results within 4 hours (from the end of your appointment). There are two exceptions to this:

  • Mycoplasma genitalium: takes up to 4 working days
  • Confirmation for HIV/Syphilis/Hepatitis B & C: takes up to 4 working days
How will I receive my STI test results?

You can receive your results by text or email (recommended).

In the event that your result for HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C is positive, we would communicate this over a phone call/in person.

If I have booked a same-day test and come at 5:30pm, will I still get my STI test results on the same day?

Yes. Even if you attend our last appointment at 5:30pm (or 1:30pm on weekends), you will still receive results which are available on the same day.

Can I get a certificate of my STI test results?

Yes, of course. Please request this in your pre-appointment questionnaire and we will share this with you after your appointment.

If you are seeking to get a certificate for official purposes, then we may require your passport/driving license at the time of appointment.

Are my STI test results accurate/conclusive?

Let’s divide this question into two:

  • Accuracy: the tests that we offer are indeed accurate (approx. 99% for most tests we offer). In fact, we are not allowed to offer tests that have not passed certain national regulations.
  • Conclusive: this depends on the infections that you are at risk of and the time that you get tested. We will discuss this in your appointment if you need any further tests and whether your results are conclusive or not.
What if I want to discuss my STI test results further?

We offer one follow-up call with every appointment. To request a follow-up call, please follow this link.

What if my STI test results are positive?

If your test has come back positive, we will ask you to come in to receive treatment. To learn about the relevant treatments, please follow the links below:

Is it possible to get treatment in the same appointment as my consultation?

In the event that you have been in contact with someone with an STI, we may be able to offer you treatment in the same appointment. However, this depends on your clinician's judgment.

Otherwise, we will request you to wait for your test results before offering you treatment.

Will I need to get a test of cure after finishing my treatment?
  • Chlamydia (not routinely recommended): 4 weeks after starting treatment
  • Gonorrhoea: 2 weeks after starting treatment
  • Trichomonas vaginalis: 2 weeks after starting treatment
  • Mycoplasma genitalium: 4 weeks after starting treatment
  • Syphilis: this varies depending on the individual and exact timings will be advised by your clinician
