Frequently Asked Questions

When should I get an STI Test?
K
L

If you are experiencing symptoms, we recommend seeing a sexual health clinician without delay.

For a routine check up, we recommend waiting 14 days for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea and 45 days for HIV & Syphilis.

What STI Tests do I need?
K
L

The exact tests you need, and the best way of testing for them, will be discussed during your Consultation (which is included with every test). This will be based on your risk factors and symptoms that you may be experiencing.

Is an STI Test the same as an STD Test?
K
L

Yes. An STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) is when a bacteria or a virus gets into a body – it can be present in the body without any symptoms.

An STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) is used when the STI (or infection) starts to exhibit signs or symptoms.

On our website, we will use STI (instead of STD) to ensure simplicity, unless stated otherwise.

Do I need a physical examination to have an STI tests?
K
L

We will only examine you if you are happy for us to do so. This is highly recommended for those experiencing symptoms.

Additionally, most samples can be taken by yourself under the instruction of our clinicians.

When will I get my STI Test results?
K
L

Most results are available within 4 hours.

There are a few exceptions to this, for example, the Herpes swab test and Mycoplasma genitalium test which take 4 working days.

What if my STI Test is positive?
K
L

We are able to offer STI Treatments for STIs, sexually related conditions and complex cases. For HIV, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C we will refer you to a specialist NHS Clinic for treatment.

Can I get a copy of my STI Test results?
K
L

Yes. You can receive your results by text and/or secure email. If you require a certificate for official purposes please bring along a copy of ID (driver’s license/passport).

Can I have an STI Test when I’m on my period?
K
L

Yes. It is perfectly safe to have an STI screen during your period, but only if you feel comfortable.

Can I have an STI Test when I’m pregnant?
K
L

Absolutely. In fact, it is extremely important to have STI tests early in the pregnancy, generally done at 12-14 weeks by a midwife. Some women prefer to repeat the STI tests at later stages of the pregnancy.

A few STI to look out for in pregnant women are:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Trichomonas Vaginalis (TV)
  • Group B Streptococcal Infection
  • Syphilis
  • HIV
