Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the Trichomonas vaginalis parasite.
Testing is performed using a high-vaginal swab for women and the first void urine sample for men. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technology is utilised in these tests to accurately detect the presence of the parasite.
For those who receive a positive Trichomoniasis result, we are able to offer treatment.

Discreet & Confidential Service
In order to be most prepared and leave plenty of time for questions & discussions, we will ask you to fill out a simple questionnaire.
We will begin by assessing your medical & sexual history, any symptoms you may be experiencing and discuss any questions you may have.
If it is still appropriate to proceed with the Trichomoniasis test (and you would like to), we will collect the appropriate samples.
Medicine is a complicated subject and sometimes these guidelines don’t always hold the answers.
For example, treating an STI in a patient who has developed a resistance to routinely used antibiotics.
Unlike most private clinics, we have medical consultants here to help you navigate through such problems and get you on the right track in no time.
About The Test
How do you test for Trichomoniasis?
A urine sample is required for male patients, and a high vaginal swab (self-taken) is required for female patients. Oral and rectal swabs are available if the clinician believes this is appropriate for you, these can also be self-taken. Samples are then processed using PCR technology to locate the presence of the Trichomonas vaginalis parasite.
What is the window period for Trichomoniasis?
Generally, it takes about 5 to 28 days after exposure for Trichomoniasis to be detectable using PCR technology.
However, if you are experiencing symptoms of Trichomoniasis, we encourage you to get tested as soon as possible.
Will I need to be examined?
An examination will be offered to you if you are experiencing symptoms. This allows the clinician to assess the extent of your symptoms and ensure there are no any secondary complications.
Although an examination may be recommended, this is entirely your decision. Your clinician will explain everything clearly.
How accurate is the Trichomoniasis test?
When a high-vaginal swab is used, the Trichomoniasis test has a sensitivity (number of true positives) rate of 98.5% and a specificity (number of true negatives) rate of 99.9%.
When a urine sample is used, the Trichomoniasis test has a sensitivity (number of true positives) rate of 97.2% and a specificity (number of true negatives) rate of 99.9%.
Can another infection be mistaken as Trichomoniasis?
No. DNA PCR testing is highly sensitive and accurate and will not confuse one infection with another.
