To prepare for your GyneFix coil removal, it's helpful to know what to expect.

During your appointment, our Specialists will discuss pain relief options to ensure your comfort. You may want to take some over-the-counter pain relief, like paracetamol or ibuprofen, about an hour before your appointment, if you find that helpful.

It can also be useful to make a note of any questions or concerns you have to discuss with our Specialists during the consultation part of your appointment.

Will I need to take time off for my GyneFix Coil Removal?

Whether you'll need to take time off after your GyneFix coil removal depends on how you feel. Some patients return to their usual activities straight away, while others prefer to rest for a day or two.

If you experience any discomfort, our Specialists can advise on pain relief and aftercare during your appointment.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, you are welcome to bring someone with you to your GyneFix coil removal appointment. A chaperone will be present during the procedure, and you may also find it helpful to have a friend or family member there for support.

What travel arrangements should I make for after the GyneFix Coil Removal?

After your GyneFix coil removal, you should be able to travel as normal. However, it's always a good idea to listen to your body and allow yourself some time to rest if needed.

If you experience any discomfort or bleeding, it might be wise to postpone any long or strenuous journeys until you feel better.

What should I expect after my GyneFix Coil Removal?

After your GyneFix coil removal, you might experience some light bleeding or cramping. This is usually temporary. If you have any concerns or if the pain is severe, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to support you.

How soon after my GyneFix Coil Removal can I have sex?

After your GyneFix coil removal, there's no strict waiting period before you can have sex. However, it's generally advised to wait until any bleeding or discomfort has subsided. This usually takes a few days.

If you experience any unusual pain or heavy bleeding, it's best to abstain from sex and consult with our Specialists.

What if I think I’m pregnant?

If you think you might be pregnant, it's important to take a pregnancy test as soon as possible. You can get these from most pharmacies or supermarkets.

If the test is positive, or you're still unsure, please book a consultation with our Specialists to discuss your options and receive appropriate care.

Can I continue to use tampons and menstrual cups if I have a GyneFix Coil Removal?

What should I expect my periods to be like?

After a GyneFix coil removal, your periods should return to how they were before you had the coil fitted. It might take a cycle or two to fully regulate.

If you have any concerns about changes to your cycle, please get in touch with our Specialists for advice.

How does the GyneFix Coil Removal work?

The GyneFix coil removal process at our clinic starts with a consultation to discuss any concerns or questions you might have. During the removal, a member of our Specialist team will gently pull on the thread attached to the GyneFix coil. This usually allows for a straightforward and quick removal.

If the threads aren't visible, we might use a special instrument to locate and grasp them. We prioritise your comfort throughout the procedure and can discuss pain relief options if needed. Afterwards, we'll provide you with aftercare advice and answer any further questions you have.

Does the GyneFix Coil Removal hurt?

Some patients find GyneFix coil removal uncomfortable, while others experience little to no pain. The level of discomfort can depend on factors like your pain tolerance and previous experiences with similar procedures.

Our Specialists can discuss pain relief options with you, such as local anaesthetic, to help minimise any discomfort during the removal.

Can I listen to my music during the GyneFix Coil Removal?

While we aim to make your experience as comfortable as possible, listening to music during a GyneFix coil removal depends on several factors. It's best to discuss this with our Specialists during your consultation. They can assess whether it's suitable, considering the procedure's requirements and your comfort levels.

Our priority is ensuring the procedure is performed effectively and that you feel safe and supported throughout.

Can I have an STI test during my appointment?

Yes, you can certainly request an STI test during your GyneFix coil removal appointment. Our Specialists will conduct a risk assessment and offer testing as needed or upon your request.

What happens if my GyneFix Coil Removal does not go as planned?

Your comfort and wellbeing are our priority, and we'll ensure you receive the appropriate care and support throughout the process. We will always discuss all available options with you to find the best solution for your individual situation.
