Coil Removal Aftercare

Stage 1

It is usual to have some period cramp like pains after your coil is removed. Local anaesthetic is not usually required but can easily be used to minimise discomfort. This discomfort should settle quickly within a few hours but could take a few days.

Stage 2

You may have some slight spotting or a bleed after your device is removed. This can continue for a few days and sometimes a few weeks.

Stage 3

You can resume sexual activity when you feel comfortable, ensuring you have another method of contraception to use instead of the coil.
