Isabel Hinckley started her nursing career in 1979 within general medicine & surgery. After working there for 3 and a half years, Isabel decided to pursue her interest in Women’s Health by training as a Midwife. Taking this experience, she went to Germany, where she was a practice nurse catering to mainly female personnel in the military quarters.
Returning to Birmingham, Isabel joined the then Calthorpe Clinic. This clinic offered specialised services to women and was one of the largest such clinics in the UK of its kind. Here, Isabel was responsible for hospital admissions, discharges, the theatre and the recovery of patients.
During her time at the Calthorpe Clinic, her ever-strong interest in contraception began to take a greater role in her daily duties. As such, Isabel set up the contraceptive service in the Calthorpe clinic, providing women with Contraceptive Implants and other methods after their procedures. This has allowed a countless number of women to have a greater awareness of various methods available to them and ultimately be more in control of their lifestyles.
Furthermore, by integrating contraceptive services into Calthorpe Clinics’ pathways, Isabel was also able to effectively deal with higher teenage pregnancy rates at the time.
Throughout her 27 years helping patients in Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinics, Isabel’s enthusiasm & commitment for the highest level of patient care remains constant. Speaking to Isabel you can feel the knowledge and experience she has amassed over the last few decades and know that you are in more than safe, professional and non-judgemental hands.
