Biography
Dr. Cleone Bretland began her medical career at the University of Leicester in 1984. In her final year she took an elective in obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University of Singapore under the guidance of Emeritus Professor Shan Ratnam. Dr. Bretland was able to benefit from his experience of pioneering gender-reassignment surgery in Singapore at the time.
As an SHO in Leicester, Dr.Bretland gained further experience in obstetrics and gynaecology with Mr. Jeremy Macafee, who opened the first family planning clinic in Melbourne, Australia. During this period, she spent time in specialist contraception clinics learning about complex removal and insertion techniques. This has remained her key area of interest ever since.
Dr. Cleone Bretland is currently running complex contraception clinics in the NHS where she deals with patients who suffer from severe anxiety, have had negative prior experiences or failed coil/implant procedures. This is alongside her complex STI clinics.
Her next steps will be to create pathways for the better understanding & management of Vulvodynia (i.e. the pain some women experience during sex) at Clarewell Clinics.
